DTI Interactive CD ROM

This interactive CD-ROM presents 500 examples of the benefits that businesses, individuals and communities have experienced by using the internet.

The Requirement
Imagine if you could work from home instead of struggling through rush hour everyday... or you could substantially cut your phone bill using the internet. These are just a few of the ways in which the internet can make life simpler. The aim of the project was to teach others the benefits of broadband by presenting them with real world case studies.

A CD-ROM presentation was required to demystify the internet lingo, reveal the benefits, and store 500 case studies which could be viewed via a CD based database and search facility. There was also a collection of video interviews which needed to be integrated within the presentation.

The Solution
The initial task was all about storyboarding the structure. The menu system and flow needed to be simple, clean and clear so as not to intimidate beginners and newbie’s to the world wide web. Each of the main areas: Live, Work and Play were each colour coded so the user always new which section they were in. Each of the case studies were accessible using a simple search and results panel. Videos were optimised, encoded and added to the video area.

The completed disc was then put under vigorous testing before sign-off. Once the functionality was complete, the packaging, CD face and informational booklet were artworked. This then went on to be produced in the thousands with national coverage in mind.

The Broadband Show

We created a visually astounding interactive DVD to show how broadband can be utilised to create rich media on the web.

The Requirement
The brief was to create a compilation of the very best broadband based web content and applications from the South West. The format was to be DVD-ROM based and compatible with both Mac and PC operating systems.

They also required a fast moving introduction to give a sense of speed and data flow. This needed to last no longer than 20 seconds, then automatically take the user through to the main menu.

The Solution
The chosen idea revolved around the concept of fibre optics. Fibre optics technology is currently being used to provide the fastest residential broadband with speeds of up to 100mbs. We began by storyboarding several intro sequences then implimented them using 3D Studio Max, creating a dramatic fibre optic tunnel.

The intro sequence then led the way the navigation was styled. Our team initially brainstormed and sketched a set of navigation solutions which went on to be artworked in Photoshop and brought to life in Flash. The end result was imaginative, modern and easy to navigate. External DVD packaging was then designed, mass produced and distributed.
